چکیده

Summary of studies is presented towards minimization of beam loss in the critical locations at the Fermilab Tevatron to reduce background rates in the collider detectors and to protect machine components. Based on detailed MonteCarlo simulations, measures have been proposed and incorporated in the machine to reduce accelerator-related instantaneous and residual background levels in the DØ and CDF detectors. Recent measurements are in good agreement with the predictions. A re-alignment of the electrostatic deflector and the Lambertson magnet and the addition of shielding in the AØ straight section has resulted in reduction of beam induced energy deposition in the superconducting magnets, which allowed an increase in the extracted beam intensity. Using the same simulation technique, it has been calculated that the total beam of 10 protons can be removed from the Tevatron at the end of the store, leaving the antiproton beam in the machine for recycling. Using the EØ collimator with attached scattering targets, this process will require about 100 seconds to keep the power deposition in the superconducting magnets below the quench level.

Coherent e + e − pair creation at high energy muon colliders . ∗

It is shown that at muon colliders with the energy in the region of 100 TeV the process of coherent pair creation by the muon in the field of the opposing beam becomes important and imposes some limitations on collider parameters. One of the main advantages of muon colliders is that the muon is much heavier than the electron and therefore the radiation (beamstrahlung) in beam collisions is supp...

Muon Colliders: New Prospects for Precision Physics and the High Energy Frontier

An overview is given of muon collider technology and of the current status of the muon collider research program. The exciting potential of muon colliders for both neutrino physics and collider physics studies is then described and illustrated using self-consistent collider parameter sets at 0.1 TeV to 100 TeV center-of-mass energies.

M ay 2 00 0 Neutrino Radiation Challenges and Proposed Solutions for Many - TeV Muon

Neutrino radiation is expected to impose major design and siting constraints on many-TeV muon colliders. Previous predictions for radiation doses at TeV energy scales are briefly reviewed and then modified for extension to the many-TeV energy regime. The energy-cubed dependence of lower energy colliders is found to soften to an increase of slightly less than quadratic when averaged over the pla...

Physics with a Millimole of Muons

The eventual prospect of muon colliders reaching several TeV encourages us to consider the experimental opportunities presented by very copious stores of muons, approaching 10 per year. I summarize and comment upon some highlights of the Fermilab Workshop on Physics at the First Muon Collider and at the Front End of a Muon Collider. Topics include various varieties of μμ colliders, μp colliders...

The Potential for Neutrino Physics at Muon Colliders and Dedicated High Current Muon Storage Rings

Conceptual design studies are underway for muon colliders and other high-current muon storage rings that have the potential to become the first true “neutrino factories”. Muon decays in long straight sections of the storage rings would produce precisely characterized beams of electron and muon type neutrinos of unprecedented intensity. This article reviews prospects the for these facilities to ...
